World Doula Week 3/22-3/28

Doula is a Greek word meaning, “woman’s servant.”

Professional doulas are hired to provide physical, emotional, spiritual and educational support during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum.

I love having the foundation as a doula and childbirth educator. My doula experiences have complemented my midwifery apprenticeship.

Midwives can’t be your hands on doula during labor and birth while providing clinical support at the same time. But, if they have had doula training and doula experience, your midwife care will be more well rounded during labor and birth as there will be times when they can provide physical doula hands on support.

Birth doulas should be hired independently, meaning outside your care providers’ office. Why? For unbiased support.

My wish is that everyone who desires a doula, can have one.

🌸Happy Mother’s Day! 5.13.18

I wish all of you good mamas a beautiful day! I know that some of you grew up without your biological mom, some that weren’t there due to their own inabilities, and mothers that were abusive. For this I’m sorry. I send you pure love.

Luckily, my mom has always been there for me. My mom is a good woman, a strong woman. She endured much as she supported us. Working two jobs during Christmas seasons to provide for us. She made sure we were taken care of and still does to this day.

Thankfully, I inherited her work ethics among her many positive traits. I love you mom!

May you celebrate the good mothers  in your life! May you have peace and understanding, even heal from the damage if the mothers in your life were downright awful.

Childbirth Preparation & Prenatal Classes: Series 2 begins 4/07/18. Located in Tooele, Utah

Do you want a natural childbirth?
Do you want your partner (or a friend, or family member) to be your coach & labor/doula support?

Do you want to give your baby the best start? Of course you do!

Classes include, but not limited to, relaxation practice, simple pregnancy exercises to encourage optimal fetal positioning as it makes for an easier labor & birth, prenatal and postpartum nutrition (eating foods that help grow a healthy baby and level out postpartum hormones), breastfeeding, informed consent and positive communications for a satisfying birth experience.

❄️Winter Solstice❄️

It never fails that I get caught driving in the first hardcore snowfall of the season. Last night was no different.

Even though the mountain pass drive was treacherous and both hands were on the wheel, I’m grateful that I was able to deliver some Christmas gifts to my daughter and grandbabies (I have two). I played Santa in true “flying” through the snow fashion!

May this Solstice bring comfort and  safety; may you honor this winter season. ❄️

Lots of Love, Alda Mills💙

Happy Thanksgiving!

I love Thanksgiving and always have! I’ve cooked our dinner and prepared pies for many years. I make a mean tarragon turkey roasted in the oven!

It’s a turkey recipe created by Suzanne Somers as I have a few of her cook books. Did you know she’s a fabulous chef? I adore her and her entrepreneurial spirit. The turkey is accompanied by the most delicious sausage stuffing!

But, this year I am cooking a small tarragon turkey roast that is cooking right now in a crock pot (slow cooker). And, I’m foregoing the sausage stuffing.

I had to rethink my traditional Thanksgiving dinner foods, even Thanksgiving breakfast. I’m on call for two births, so I must conserve my energy.  It’s exciting to think that I started my midwife apprenticeship one year ago, November 2016!

My boys are getting used to the idea of this change and I must say that it’s been nice to be able to take 5 several times today.

My first born even made two vegan pumpkin pies to help me out. Can’t wait to taste it with the coconut whipped cream! No, I’m not vegan just dairy free.

I hope this day finds you relaxing and enjoying good food as you’re surrounded by those you love! I’ll be eating soon with my two handsome boys and beautiful little girl.

Happy Thanksgiving & Much Love, ~Alda Mills

Trick or Treat 10.31.17

Happy Halloween! One of my favorite celebrations of the year. Why? It’s fun with no expectations. And, I seriously love candy. Sugary, crunchy, chewy candy. Skittles, starbursts, Swedish fish, sprees, nerds, fireballs. Sweet & sour is the bomb! I don’t allow myself to indulge in candy very often anymore as sugar physically & internally hurts my body. But, tonight I partake. May my body tolerate.
As you know, Halloween is rich in history. Its origins run deep. I have read about religious meanings and pagan rituals. They say the veil is thinnest on All Hallows’ Eve.

What ever happened to the shouting at the top of your lungs, “TRICK OR TREAT?!” When you approach my door, BEWARE! Standing in my power is, however, electrifying.

Is it really a happy Mother’s Day?

How are you honoring this day?

You’ve made a huge sacrifice to bring your little one(s) into this world!

Some women may have had an easy pregnancy, labor and birth. For some, breastfeeding may have gone easily and smoothly.

For others, they have dealt with excruciating morning sickness, extreme hormonal changes, body image grievances, difficult nursing experiences and pregnancy that, unfortunately, resulted in a loss.

For some mamas their labor may have started out like their written dream birth plan, but then quickly turned into a horror story nightmare resulting in birth trauma.

Some may relish motherhood and some may suffer from postpartum depression.

Some may long to meet their biological mother and will never get the chance. Some may wish they have never met their biological mother.

Some grew up in love and luxury, some grew up in hate and violence.

For today, I will set my own birth traumas aside. I grew up with a mom who had a sudden change in plans, but did the very best she possibly could give her children, due to our circumstances. Over the last two years, my mom and I have developed a refreshing understanding of each other. We have spent many nourishing hours together developing a deeper love. For this I’m grateful.

Whatever memories this day brings for you, I honor you and I hold space for you in my heart.

But, for today, I hope you find peace on this dedicated day honoring mothers.

I wish you beautiful mamas a day filled with lots of love and pampering. May it be a day of relaxation! If it isn’t a day of joy, please reach out, you’re not alone.

Sending you lots of love! -Alda Mills
